Kept By the Power of God

Daily Devotional for July 15th

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 1 Peter 1:5-6

It is such an honor to be a child of God in this generation. There is such sadness in our hearts knowing that multitudes think they are enjoying live in sin without Christ. But those of us who have lived a life of sin and now are enjoying this wonderful salvation; we truly know the difference. What makes salvation so wonderful is the fact that, unlike before, we have access to the grace of God to empower us, strengthen us, help us through whatever we go through. The common sinner trusts in himself or in some worldly means of getting him through his problems.

In this life there are many dangers and snares we will encounter. God has ordained that the Spirit of God will walk with you and guide you into all truth. This specifically means that He will shepherd you through every trial, every valley, every struggle you face. Not like before salvation, we now have the privilege of trusting and relying on our Lord to keep us. The truth is, we cannot find our way alone. The powers that pull against us are too strong for us to fight off on our own. Jesus promised to be our strength; to be our defense, and to be the strong tower.

But friend, we are kept by the power of God. This does not mean that we are mystically held up by grace while running headlong into sin. It means that after we have surrendered our lives to Jesus Christ and are trusting Him to be our salvation by faith, the power of God keeps us. Notice what Peter says here; kept by the power of God through faith. The word kept means to be a watcher in advance, i.e. to mount guard as a sentinel; to hem in, protect:–keep. This is wonderful news for us! We are kept by God’s power when our faith is in Him.

After we are born again, we tend to revert back to the way we lived our lives before; meaning, we do not rely on the Lord as we should. Trails will come in our lives for the purpose of showing us that we should not believe that we are keeping ourselves, but God Himself is the one keeping us. Psalms 127:1 teaches us that Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. Friend, the struggles of life are too big for you. We cannot keep ourselves. The power of God keeps us as long as we trust in Him. Are you trusting Jesus to keep you?
