The Obvious Choice

Daily Devotional for May 17th

By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Hebrews 11:24-25

When you were a child, you no doubt played games that required you choose a team or else the team chose you. As the team was being assembled, there was a confidence that would grow within the hearts as they surveyed the talent of each team member.  The sad thing about choosing sides though is; there is an enmity that develops; a hostility from one side to the other.  After the team is assembled, the battle lines are clearly drawn.

The same is true of Satan. When he fell, he has, since that time, had nothing but hostility against, not only God, but everything God represents as well as His creation.  Moses, in this verse, arrived at a crossroads in his life.  He had to make a decision.  His decision was based upon one thing; his vision of eternity.  Eternity you say?  Yes!  There is no other way to view his excruciating decision or his willingness to choose what seemed to be bad over good in any other capacity.

Moses saw the affliction of Israel while seeing the pleasure of the Egyptians. His decision was foolishness to the house of Pharaoh.  Did you know that your choice to follow Jesus is foolish to the world, but the world doesn’t see the end result as you do?  Many people are trading a few days of what seems to be pleasure in sin over an eternity in Heaven.  Jesus said plainly For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36.  It is the ease of the world over what seems to be the affliction of the people of God.

There is one thing for certain friend; if you choose the Lord’s side, you will face opposition from the world. Satan will stop at nothing to oppose you, resist you and attack you!  But you’ve chosen the winning side!  Moses looked beyond the season; his vision was much further.  He knew that Egypt’s season of sin was about to come to an abrupt halt.  So is the season of this entire world.  Are you making the right choice?  What side have you chose to be on?  If you’re not on the side of Jesus, you’re on the losing side friend.  Jesus will take His people to rule and reign with Him one day.  Will you be in that number?

  1. I planned on being in that number many years ago and I wouldn’t change sides for anything in this world.
