Christ Crucified: The Power of God

Daily Devotional for May 12th

But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:23-24

When Paul wrote this letter to the Corinthians, the Corinthians didn’t really grasp the gravity of words he pinned down.  Some Christians today do not grasp the words that he wrote here.  There is virtually no way to underscore the importance of these verses.  Paul preached Christ crucified plain and simple and for one reason; this message is the only way the power of God can come into our lives.

The Jews wanted signs in order to make them believe in God.  The Greeks; which is who the Corinthians were, sought earthly wisdom to make them believe.  They wanted it to make sense in their mind before they accepted.  As educated people in this generation, are we much different?

When we view the cross where Jesus died, we mostly only see the agonizing death of a man.  To all others who were crucified, that is true.  But for Jesus Christ, the cross was the carrying out of a plan.  The cross was and is one place where the power of God will come and satisfy God’s judgment on sin and give the grace necessary to resurrect man’s dead spirit that resulted through sin.

Are we losing sight of the power of God as believers?  Are we going back to the Cross when we need victory over sin or the devil’s devices or are we seeking help somewhere else?  Paul determined to know nothing at Corinth except for Christ and Him Crucified.  Why?  Because there is nothing else on this planet that can deliver you from Satan’s clutches.  If there had been any other way, God would no doubt have made it so.  But Jesus’ price at Calvary is your only victory over Satan; both at salvation and after your saved.

Are you lost and incomplete without God and want freedom from sin and a life worth living?  You’ll find it by going to the Cross by faith asking Jesus to free you!  Are you born again but can’t seem to break free from something Satan’s chains enslave you with?  Go back to the Cross friend!  Don’t allow anyone to convince you that victory comes any other way because it doesn’t.  Once you sincerely put your trust in Christ and His sacrifice at Calvary, you’ll know in an instant the Cross is the power of God!
