I’m Not Going Without God
Daily Devotional for April 24th
Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? Exodus 33:13-16a
How often do you encounter the presence of God? Some have a shallow and vague encounter with the Holy Spirit while in worship, while others bask in the presence of God on a daily basis. There is no reason why we should be strangers to God’s presence. One of the greatest problems we face is that we do not maintain a Holy Spirit conscience in our everyday life. When we do not sense the presence of God, do we simply accept it as a normality, or do we refuse to go on without His presence?
When the children of Israel had sinned in the valley by making the golden calf, the Lord had become wroth and told Moses to depart and take his people on into the promised land. He also declared unto Moses that He would not go with them. Exodus 33:1-3. Moses stopped everything and refused to go another step without God. This should be in the heart of each and everyone of us. Have you encountered the presence of God? Have you felt so intensely His Spirit and afterward found yourself desiring nothing except God? If so, you have availed yourself to a wonderful life where you will grow deeper and deeper in love with God.
In our walk with God, there should be a steady encounter with the presence of God. The reason is simple; we are born of the Spirit; we worship in Spirit and Truth; we should pray in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit should never be a foreign or even rare encounter with us. If we do not encounter the Spirit of God individually on a regular basis, we should start searching our hearts as to why.
The fall of every Christian from their strength and victory begins with the absence or pulling away of God’s presence. Fellowship with God through the Spirit is to teach us what the Lord expects of us. In other words, when we have no communion with the spirit of God as before, it should cause us to search our hearts and lives to see where we have deviated from God’s word because there is a reason why God withholds this fellowship. It should alarm us. If gone unheeded, it will not be long before your desire to live for God abates.
Those who have a steadily committed walk with the Lord are those who have awaken to the truth that God’s presence is a vitality, not just an accessory. If your in a condition today where, in the past you’ve enjoyed the presence of God in sweet fellowship but now are encountering a season of the absence of communion, then take some time and search your heart; your life. Ask the Lord to reveal any areas of your life where your fellowship with God has been broken. He will reveal it. The Lord understands that we need His presence on a regular basis. Seek the Lord and allow Him to reveal to you and restore the joy of thy salvation! Determine in your heart today like Moses to refuse to go without God’s presence!
