Increase Our Faith
Daily Devotional for March 11th
And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard see, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea, and it should obey you. Luke 17:5-6
When we think of faith, a few things usually come to mind. We think of believing in the unseen. We also think of trusting God. Believing God has accomplished great things throughout the ages including the healing of sick, raising of the dead, opening of eyes and ears, and most importantly the salvation of souls. But faith in God is not the secret; it is believing on the Lord where God’s promises come to us.
We all start out with a certain measure of faith in God. The Lord does not want your measure of faith to remain the same. God desires that your faith in Him increase. Sadly though, some people start out with faith in God, but Satan steals from them their confidence and ultimately destroys their faith in God. Some have faith to believe God for the promises to other people, but very rarely have enough for their own. The Lord desires to work on your behalf. His desire is to extend to you every blessing that Jesus paid for.
The apostles realized the importance of faith when they asked Jesus to increase their faith. It’s interesting how Jesus responded to them. Jesus increased their faith by revealing to them that a minute amount of faith will accomplish great things in the spirit. According to Jesus’ answer to them, it is not, ironically, the amount of faith that moves sycamine trees, but it’s the quality of faith. You can have a mustard seed amount of faith and it will remove things in your life and bring God’s promises to you.
The writer of Hebrews tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6. Did you know that you can live as pure a life from sin, but never be able to receive of God the promises He has promised you? The Lord wants you to not just believe in Him but believe on Him as well. Are you struggling trying to receive the promises you know God has promised to you, but fail to see them come to reality? True faith is not just believing God can, but believing God will. He is faithful that promised. Extend your faith to Him today for the promise He’s already made to you.
