When the Devil Roars
Daily Devotional for February 10th
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist stedfast in the faith… 1 Peter 5:8-9a
The devil is subtle and crafty, but he is not wise. If your lost, you have no hope against him until you turn to Jesus. If your saved, his purpose is to get your eyes off of Jesus. If he can get you trusting in yourself or some other means or method of victory, then you’ll soon be defeated. Satan knows that if your faith is concrete in Christ, then he has lost. His desire is to get your faith removed from God.
When the devil roars, he is looking for those who will tremble at his sound. Every time he roars, his presence makes us question, now what am I gonna do? The good news is, his roar becomes less relevant the longer we live for the Lord. Why is that? It is because Jesus so builds our faith in Him and grows us into a place where He proves the devil cannot move you like he once did so easily. We are under new management praise God.
He, as a roaring like, is on the prowl desiring you as prey. He is seeking whom he may devour. This lends to the idea that permission has to be given unto him some way. The way he is given permission is when we start doubting God’s help. The devil seeks those who are weak in faith. This Christian walk is entirely about faith. Faith opens the door for God’s power to move in your life. Unbelief closes the door to God and opens the door of Satan to devour.
The bible teaches us to resist the devil and he will flee from us. Although we are taught to be sheep, many of us carry that same mentality over into facing the devil. You cannot do that. You’ll lose every time. We must realize that we are to walk in humility toward God and toward people. However, we are instructed in the word of God to resist Satan.
The truth is, Satan fears God so terribly that he will run in terror! God is on your side friend. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. The next verse here says, Whom resist, stedfast in the faith. When the devil comes roaring, stand against him in faith knowing that God is your present help in time of need. Once the devil realizes your faith will not move from Jesus, he will have no choice than to flee.
