Daily Devotional for January 29th
And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Matthew 17:1-2
Does Jesus love you more than? Absolutely not! Neither does He love you less. As previously said, God does not play favorites. There are times though, the Lord will take you into experiences, not because He prefers you above other believers, but because your faith needs to be reinforced greater. If your faith is weaker than others, the Lord will extend more grace to you. You will receive great revelations from the Lord in order to strengthen you. God works with us all individually because He alone knows us personally.
When these three disciples and Jesus made it up to the mount, He was transfigured before them. The disciples witnessed three beings; Jesus, Moses and Elijah. As the disciples beheld, they declared the need to build three tabernacles; one for each. They erred in the sense that they attempted to place Moses and Elijah as equals to Jesus, but Moses and Elijah disappeared and only Jesus remained. God spoke This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; Hear ye Him.
Jesus is not just another prophet in the long line of God’s men. He is the Son! He is second to none! Peter, James and John would witness a vision that would change their lives forever. According to the great lesson learned in this event, it is very possible that these three men regarded Jesus highly, but still yet did not regard him correctly. Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ or some great man who was used of God? Regardless of how great Moses and Elijah’s words were, they could not be compared to the Son; the King! Jesus is the One these other men had testified of.
You can believe that Jesus is all powerful, but when the devil roars, do you doubt God’s willingness or power do move on your behalf? You can believe that Jesus is the Christ, but still not believe that He has all power to redeem the outcasts whom the world has given up on or believe that He can change every circumstance. How often do we find ourselves in situations where a problem grows way beyond our faith to trust that Jesus can fix it? We arrive at the point where not hope exists; not even in God. It is during these times, you need to see the transfiguration.
They saw Jesus in His glory for the first time! They beheld Jesus the way that angels in Heaven behold Him. They beheld Him in the same way all of the earth will see Him! They beheld the Son in His Glory! Peter, James and John came off the mount that day understanding that Jesus could not be compared to anything or anyone else! God will also bring you into places where you will learn that nothing or no one can be equaled to Jesus. God’s ultimate goal is to bring you to the knowledge that Jesus is Lord of all!
