God’s Choice For Leaders
Daily Devotional for January 20th
Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: Daniel 2:20-21
Contrary to what the world may think, all world leaders are either permitted or chosen by God. They are not always the leaders people want, although sometimes they are. Although the bible is true that says God sets up kings and he brings them down, it also proves that God gives nations the desires of their hearts. Saul, Israel’s first king, was the desire of the people and God gave them their desire. The next king would be a product of God’s heart.
Countries may desire a certain type of leader, but the result is regrettable and the people will mourn. But when God sets up the ruler according to His choice, the people will be pleased. Wicked rulers are permitted to rise for disciplining a nation. They are also allowed for the intention of giving a backslidden country a fill of its own ways and to see its need for repentance. Righteous leaders are chosen in order to bring righteousness, blessing and truth.
The best leaders are not self appointed or chosen of the people, they are God anointed. David was the choice of God. His policies brought blessing unto the people. The attribute that made David such a great leader was that his heart was after God. Man looks for knowledge and wisdom as the deciding character traits of a great leader. God looks on the heart. It is man’s heart that gets God’s attention.
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Proverbs 29:2 The morality of the leader will always be revealed in the attitude and blessing of the people of that nation. The wicked ruler will oppress the righteous but will empower the lawless. The righteous ruler will be a blessing unto both the lawless and the just of the nation although the lawless will be held accountable.
Whether you agree or disagree with those who have the rule over you, the truth remains that the powers that be are ordained of God. Romans 13:1-2. A nation will bear the fruit of its leaders. A true and righteous leader will in turn, see himself as under God and look to God for leadership. His policies will cause the people blessing!
