Star of Bethlehem
Daily Devotional for December 24th
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Luke 1:30-33
Out of the entire human race, the birth of Jesus is by far the most publicized throughout the entire world. His life has been studied, criticized and scrutinized beyond measure. It is obviously due to the claim that He made of Himself that He was the Son of Almighty God. The dilemma that lays before us all is this one thing; either He is who He said He was, or He is not.
With the foreknowledge and wisdom of our Heavenly Father, God chose, for the coming of His Son to redeem the world, many signs that would herald to humanity about the Messiah. Sign after sign, prophecy after prophecy, pointing to a certain year, pointing to a certain town, with specific signs mentioned ahead of time, God would send His only Begotten Son. Once all the signs were foretold and fulfilled, there would be no doubt about who Jesus was!
Magi came from the East to see where this baby who was born King of the Jews lay. The Magi first of all believed God and His word, and secondly, studied intently in order to arrive at the fact that they were living in the time of the fulfillment of His coming. The East, namely Babylon, which from the book of Daniel proves the place many Jews lived during the captivity. Once these men realized they were in the year Daniel prophesied of, and saw “His Star” in the East, they had no choice but to come.
Did you know that God is still proving Himself by many infallible proofs today? Lost people have to be willingly ignorant and turn their ears from the truth in order to remain skeptics. This Star stood before the entire region that someone unlike any other had come to this world. Just like the Christmas gifts are found under the star that crowns the Christmas tree, God’s gift lay under the Star that He Himself hung in the sky. The Magi said, “We have seen His star in the East, and are come to worship.” Once we behold the Christ in purity, we will desire to worship as well.
