Maintaining the Purity of the CROSS
Daily Devotional for October 12th
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel; not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. I Corinthians 1:17
Saul of Tarsus had a religious pedigree a mile long. He was well on his way to becoming a religious leader of high regard in Israel. With all of the knowledge Paul had pertaining to the Old Testament, he forsook it all once Jesus saved him on the road to Damascus. Once the Saviour rescued him, Saul (now Paul) would see the devastation that everything, including religious things, would cause to pull people away from the victory man so desperately needs in his life. It can only be found in the Cross of Jesus Christ!
Much of today’s preaching has diluted the power of the gospel with something else and in doing so, preachers have caused great error to come into the church world. Out of all the schemes Satan will attempt to use to keep men and women bound, religious bondage is at the peek. Paul declared that Jesus did not send him to baptize, but to preach the gospel. Although baptism is wonderful and scriptural, Paul was not sent to baptize. Why is that? The Lord revealed to Paul that, when it comes to victory over Satan, if we preach anything other than the cross of Christ, we will make the gospel of none effect. He knew that some would start adding to the gospel of the cross and in doing so, would dilute the purity of the cross. Our victory is not in Jesus plus something else. If you are saved today, don’t direct people to church, direct them to the cross. Our victory is in Calvary alone! It’s in Jesus alone! It’s in the Blood of Christ alone!
The lost and undone of this world do not need another vice in their lives; they need freedom and victory. Sin has caused bondage to come to this world and man is forever crying out for freedom from that bondage. That freedom can only be found in the cross of Calvary! You’ll not find it anywhere else! It’s not even in doing religious things! Victory is repenting of your sins and ways, leaving everything behind and committing your life to Christ. Leave it all behind today and come to Jesus. Victory is in casting your cares, troubles, heartaches, trials, mountains and struggles on Jesus and placing your faith in what Jesus did on Calvary’s cross because the Cross is the place where Jesus won your victory.
