Attacks on Our Freedom

Daily Devotional for September 11th

And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: Galatians 2:4

As we are reminded on this day of the horrific attacks on the World Trade Center Towers in New York City back in 2001, we reflect on why such an event would be conceived in the hearts of someone. It’s sobering to think there are individuals who would consider destroying so many lives.  We must come to grips with the reality that the motivation of attacks toward us are spiritual; demonic at the core.

Do you realize that your spiritual freedom and liberty is always under attack? Paul revealed to the Galatian believers of this sobering truth.  The fact is there are men and women motivated by the devil to remove you from the liberty and freedom you have in Christ.  Satan would love no better than to bring you again into bondage.  Our freedom and liberty rests in the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross!  Once we accept Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for our sin, that payment is awarded to us by faith and breaks every yoke, every chain, every vice in satan’s arsenal.  He has then no legal right to hold you captive, therefore, he must let you go.

Many nations in our world cannot comprehend the liberty America enjoys. Whether it’s recognized or not, America’s freedom is a result of her foundation upon the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Therefore, the attacks are spiritual.  Make no mistake, if you are walking in freedom in Jesus, satan will orchestrate attacks on that freedom.  The Galatian church endured false brethren who secretly sought to bring them into bondage and actually succeeded in part.  Their strategy was to bring a message that would redirect their focus from Jesus Christ, to trusting in Law keeping.  It seemed harmless, but devastated the church nonetheless.  The freedom the church had once enjoyed, had been removed from them and bondage was the result.  Galatians 5:1-7

Is your freedom being attacked? You may ask, how do I know if my freedom is being attacked?  What is the focus of your trust on?  If your beholding something other than Christ Jesus for freedom and liberty, then bondage is on its way.  Are you wrestling with bondages right now that you once had victory over?  Bondage is possible once again even though you are born again and is a reality for many believers today.  The devil succeeds with distracting your faith from Christ and the cross to something; anything else.  For whatever your wrestling with today, turn your attention back to the victory Jesus won for you.  Every bondage you are entangled with will be destroyed.
