Front Line Soldiers
Daily Devotional for August 12th
And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Ezekiel 22:30
In every battle, there are different strategies of war and locations to fight. Armies have those who operate the catapults; the archery division, the spearmen, and the highly skilled front line soldiers. Those on the front lines are a unique group. Their skills, stamina, and determination have been tried and tested. It is no different in the kingdom of God. As Paul revealed to Timothy, he was a soldier by Jesus Himself. What an honor that must have been!
Do you get the feeling you encounter warfare more so than others? Are you bombarded with spiritual attacks? Does it seem as though you wrestle principalities more frequently than those around you? Take heart and be of great courage friend. It could be that God has chosen you as a front line soldier. The reason is because you have learned from the Lord how to fight. You’ve allowed the Lord to train you how to pray and use the word of God to combat against the enemies onslaughts in order to see victory in those God has placed in your path.
The front line is the position closest to the area of conflict of an armed force’s personnel and equipment. Some soldiers are on the front lines for their brute strength, others for their skill and some for their tactical knowledge. All of these talents put together makes for a dreadful adversary. The apostles were soldiers on the front line. They were the “spearhead” of the kingdom of God to the lost world. They could not hide behind allies. They were on the front lines waging warfare to win back the world for Christ.
What happens when a front line soldier goes on to be with the Lord? First of all, there is a void; a breach on the front line; an opening gap were the enemy will try to get through the line. What is the remedy? Someone must step in; fill in the gap and make up the hedge. Here in Ezekiel, there were holes; gaps in the front line and He was seeking for someone to stand in the gap and reinforce the front line! He found none sadly!
Has God called you to step up into the front? Has He been training you for this hour? This is not an opportunity for arrogance, but of necessity. God needs you! You may be battling today because God knows He can place you in the hottest of warfare and you will trust Him! The Lord will continually draw you closer to Himself so He can teach you His ways. His campaign; His mission is the most important thing to Him! To win the lost for Christ! Will you step in the gap?
