Weary In Well Doing

Daily Devotional for July 8th

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:8-9

The Christian life is not without battles and struggles. If you’re a Christian, then you have been called to a vocation.  That vocation is to labor in the salvation of souls.  With any type of labor comes weariness and tiredness.  Fatigue is very destructive to the body, but spiritual fatigue takes on a whole different perspective.  If you’re in ministry, you understand the realities of spiritual weariness.  If gone unresolved, spiritual weariness will turn into burnout.

Weariness can set in a number of ways. Many become weary because their work for God takes precedence over their fellowship and communion.  Others become weary because they are laboring with only their eyes on the harvest.  If our motivation is something else other than obedience to God, then frustration, discouragement and weariness are just around the corner.  Your success may not always be manifested with fruit.  But if your only motivation for labor is to be pleasing to the Lord, then you’ll be content obeying God without even seeing the fruit.

As a farmer prepares the ground for seed, he/she cannot expect to see harvest in seedtime. That would be foolish.  Do you realize we continually desire to harvest of our labors even in seed planting season?  Why do we do this?  There will be reaping time, but there must also be a time of planting where you give to the ground instead of taking the fruit from it.

Make no mistake friend, you will reap if you do not faint.  Genesis 8:22 says While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. We must understand that there is a due season.  You may be laboring right now and have become frustrated with no visible signs of harvest.  Could it be you’re plowing or sowing?  Keep plowing friend, harvest will come.  Keep planting brother, keep sowing sister.  God will bring forth a day of reaping and you will rejoice when it comes.
