Protect Your Freedom
Daily Devotional for July 4th
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1
Even though Americans enjoy freedoms and liberties that no other country is privileged to, there are even still liberties and freedoms that Christians enjoy above all other Americans. Is America truly the land of the free? I dare to say that you cannot know freedom unless you have been set free by Jesus Christ. Even though we are free and daily enjoy our freedom in America, it does not mean that this freedom cannot be taken from us. Many countries down through the centuries have lost the freedoms that were fought on their behalf. As Christians, we are no different.
Is it possible to lose the freedoms that we have as children of God? According to Paul’s letter to the Galatians; Yes! He declared unto them that they must “Stand fast in the liberty.” Stand fast means to persevere, which in turn, means to continue on a course of action in the face of difficulty. Do you realize what this means friend? It literally means that we must stand and defend the freedoms that Jesus has won for us so that we be not entangled again.
The Galatians had lost their liberty in Christ due to the fact that they had been pulled away from the gospel of Christ unto an observance of the law. This observing the law caused them to become entangled in the yoke of bondage again. This is why we must become anchored in the Cross! Becoming anchored to Jesus is not a work of righteousness on our part, but simply a defending of the liberty that we have in Christ.
Do not allow anyone or anything to pull you away from the simplicity that is in Christ. It is Christ that won our victory at the Cross. Why then should we allow anyone to pull our focus away! When you first gave your life to Jesus, there was a victory that was so evident in your life. All you did to receive this victory was to place all of your trust in Christ! This is the exact way that we protect our freedom. This is how we stand fast in the liberty!
Have you enjoyed a freedom in Christ at some point in your life but wonder why that freedom is not present in your life today? In America, citizens must stand firmly on the Bill of Rights and other founding documents that declare our freedoms. As Christians, we must do the same with the Word of God. God’s word tells us that we are to stand in the liberty Christ won for us! It was won at Calvary. Since that time, anyone and everyone who trusts in Christ shall be set free. Equally important, your continued freedom rests upon you keeping your faith squarely set at the Cross! Protect your freedom in Christ daily by reinforcing your faith in the victory Jesus won for you at the Cross!
