Daily Devotional for July 6th
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Matthew 13:14-15
In the physical sense, hearing is one of the many abilities we take for granted. But those who are hearing impaired cannot enjoy it and long to have it. The ability to hear has many advantages. For one, your hearing can prevent great tragedy from occurring in your life. Hearing can also provide the ability to receive wonderful instruction that can bring great knowledge.
In the spiritual sense, the same problem exists. Did you know that you can have perfect hearing but not be able to hear when the Spirit of God speaks unto you? Jesus ended all of His letters to the seven churches in Revelation with the words “he that hath an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Jesus revealed in this verse the root of spiritual deafness. This type of deafness comes from a heart that has waxed gross.
God speaks to us through His Spirit. It is on a spiritual level that we hear from God. Your spiritual hearing and seeing are all contingent upon the condition of your heart. If you allow sin to reign in your life, that sin will cause you to become spiritually impaired. As in the physical sense, your hearing is vital to your survival. When you’ve repented of you sin and the blood has cleansed you, then spiritual hearing returns. When the ability to hear from God returns, then you will be able to learn from the Spirit and receive instruction in your everyday life.
When was the last time you remember God speaking to you? God speaks unto us all of the time. However, our deafness makes us believe that God is not talking to us. The truth is, God is speaking but our ears have become dull of hearing. Not only does God want to hear from you, He also wants you to hear from Him when He speaks. Repent of those things you’ve allowed in your life. Once you do, your ears will be open to hear from God when He speaks.
