Don’t Fear the Storm

Daily Devotion for June 30th

And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.   Matthew 8:24-26

Out of all the things that amaze us, the word of God has to be at the top.  God’s word flies completely in the face of carnal thinking.  Some scripture cannot be analyzed and understood with a common mind, it must rather be accepted as truth.  This is one of the greatest reasons why unbelievers take issue with the bible.  But do you understand today that some things Jesus said cannot be comprehended, they must be received?  The reason is because some truths are so deep and high that man does not have the ability to comprehend them.

When disciples heard the word why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith, they must have been shocked at Jesus’ response.  With the tempest raging and the ship covered with waves, how could they not be fearful?  They must have also been amazed at the sight of Jesus asleep.  Friend, life’s troubles do not alarm God!  When you are above the storm, then you have no concern of them.  You must realize today that things that trouble us do not trouble Jesus.  What else was Jesus trying to tell them though?

The storms of life take on a different view when seen through God’s eyes! The disciples may have seen storms at sea before because some were fishermen, but now they have Jesus in their boat.  Things are different with you now.  You have Jesus in your ship with you now!  That completely changes the dynamic!  Your storms today cannot be viewed as before.

Why are you fearful? Jesus asked His disciples.  If you understood the protection there is with Jesus being in your life, you would no longer fear storms either.  Jesus is in your ship today.  He is not at all alarmed at your circumstance. Why?  Because He is God!  He is over them all!  Your ship is not going down because it cannot go down with Jesus on board.  Whatever your trouble is today, keep your eyes fastened the Saviour!  He will either rebuke your storm or calm you!  Your weather will change, but Jesus never will!

  1. Amen brother! Sometimes we fear b/c our hearts image of Jesus is wrong. Zac Poonen, a gifted Indian Bible teacher, once exhorted believers, “What are the 4 most common faces of Jesus? “the helpless baby”, “helpless looking in the Garden of Gethsemane”, “sacred heart picture, weak looking” and “standing at the door, effeminate looking”.
“No, not our Lord!” brother Zac insisted, “”Jesus had look of strength and authority! He was never helpless!”
Forgive me for too long comment! I do so want to “fasten my eyes on the Savior” and remember all power is in His hand!
Thank you again for stirring my faith!
