The King’s Generals
Daily Devotional for May 22nd
These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time. 2 Samuel 23:8
Do you realize that you are a part of the greatest kingdom military on this earth? Do you realize that God is forging you right now into a soldier He can not only use to win extremely rough military campaigns in the world, but also to become a leader to recruit, train and equip military men and women behind you? In this generation in which we live, there has never been a greater need for the people of God to grow and become spiritually mature and equipped for the purpose of combatting the kingdom of darkness and win this world for Christ.
Although king David had many soldiers in the nation, there were some who had devoted themselves so fully and completely that they went on to become the his mighty men; the king’s generals. They chose to give themselves entirely to God and country. They resolved to not only keep the enemy out of Israel and protect the vulnerable, they also trained skilled soldiers who would come behind them to fill their shoes. They were career military men. What about you? What is your purpose in the God’s kingdom? Do you view yourself as just another child of God with no real significance or do you desire to become everything Jesus wants you to be?
God also has a band of men of war! These are men who recognize the warfare that is raging. They have willingly entered the fight for the kingdom of God and refuse to back down. There is great honor in the sight of God to all who will enlist for life. God will build you into a warrior of valor. Not only were David’s men mighty in battle, they would become examples to all soldiers who came after them. Are you military minded? Do you view this Christian life as one of fighting in a kingdom? Do you see the need to train, equip and arm those whom God has placed under you? If so, then you have been given the great responsibility of being one of the King’s generals.
If God has taught you great truths in combating the enemy and they’ve resulted in wonderful deliverances and victories in lives, then you must understand also that God does not want the truths you’ve learned to die with you. He will raise you and give you a platform to express those wonderful truths to others coming up in His kingdom. Plainly, the apostles of Jesus were discipled and then sent forth to train those who would come behind them. They were the King’s Generals. God still has work for you to do. Equip, disciple and teach those whom God has made you overseer of. If you will remain humble, teachable and be willing to teach what you’ve been shown, the Lord will make you one of the King’s Generals.
