Moving Up in the Ranks
Daily Devotional for May 19th
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own? Luke 16:10-12
When we view our purpose in the kingdom of God, we very rarely, if ever, see ourselves as becoming people of great influence. We come to God for salvation, not for position. But after we’re born again, we seek and desire to fulfill the will of God. Satan continually places lies into our minds that we will never be anything or be used of God to make a great impact on the world. There’s no doubt that great men and women of God were hindered in the same way. But the truth is, if you will allow God access into your life on a daily basis, He will form you, forge you and make you into a soldier that can be used and trusted in great things.
Jesus revealed to us how God promotes men and women in His kingdom. He promotes through faithfulness. With this scripture, the parable of talents along with many other examples, God has expressed interest in moving you up in the ranks as is the case with all armies. Remember that it wasn’t until the first disciples had been taught by the Lord before they were sent to make disciples. Friend, you are no different. Don’t despise the days of small things. Don’t become frustrated that your being tested and molded in character. God is interested in building your character and godly principles in you more than anything else. The reason is simple; if He can create integrity, commitment and godly character in you, then He can then give you any and all necessary tools, gifts and assignments because He knows you will be faithful. What you learn in your early Christian experiences will be building blocks that will eventually mold you and give you the founding principles to advance you in the army of God.
Those who will submit themselves to God and allow Him to build them, He will advance them in the ranks. God needs foot soldiers, but He also needs captains and sergeants. He also needs lieutenants and generals. This should never be construed as for pride or arrogance though. The path to being used of God in greater ways is through humility and faithfulness. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. Matthew 23:12 Paul would go on to reveal to Timothy about striving for masteries. And if a man strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. 2 Timothy 2:5
Are you faithful with what the Lord has already given you? What has He given me? Are you faithful in your daily walk? Your family; children? Sunday school class? Devotion? Could it be that in your waiting for God to move you up that He is waiting for you to be proven faithful? 1 Corinthians 4:1. Great men and women are not created, they are forged!
