The King’s Seal

Daily Devotional for May 1st

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14

In our generation and society, when we think of seals, we think of a means of maintaining freshness on jars, bottles or packages. But in this scripture, seals mentioned are not the same.  These are in reference to kingdoms which were totally different and far more significant.  Seals were vital to the authenticity of documents messages.  Seals were a means of authenticating ownership of official various things of the throne.  Seals were made from two distinct components; hot red wax and the king’s signet which contained His own unique mark.  The king’s signet was generally on his ring and there was no duplicate inscription like it in the world so that documents could not be forged.  No one could masquerade as the king in the writing of letters.  The signet would have to be stolen in order to forge a document.

Do you realize that Jesus; the King of kings has placed His seal on you? He has marked you in a way that authenticates you as a child of God.  When you asked Jesus to save you and accepted His blood to atone for your sin, the blood of Christ was applied which not only covers sin, but cleanses from sin.  As a king’s signet was placed in hot red wax, the Holy Spirit is then placed where the king’s blood has been applied.  The Holy Spirit being present with you is evidence that the blood is present.  You have been authenticated by the King as His own.  He has placed His seal on you.  From this point on, there’s no need to seek commendation from the world because you have been authenticated by the King of kings.

The King’s seal would be recognizable to all who looked upon it. Our King’s seal, the Holy Spirit, cannot be duplicated and is recognizable to all.  Your brothers and sisters in Christ know as well as the lost world will recognize the Holy Spirit has sealed you.  Also, the Holy Spirit has always and will always confirm the King’s message.  God worked with the apostles, confirming the word with signs following.  There’s no imitating the Holy Spirit.  As children of God, the Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.

In this world we strive to be authentic and genuine children of God, but the Spirit of God will accomplish this if we will trust in Him. If you are God’s, then God’s people will know you in the spirit and you will know them the same.  You are a purchased possession that has been marked with His seal.  God has confirmed you and will confirm you to the end.  With the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, there will be need for no other confirmation from the world.  There is wonderful consolation having His Spirit to abide within.
