The Mark of a Great Voyager
Even though patience is a great mark of distinction bestowed upon someone, patience is typically unwelcome trait because of the trial by fire required in order to forge it. I’ve even heard people say “Don’t ask for patience because you’re gonna be tried.” So? Do I want to live the rest of my life without allowing patience to be established in me? We do ourselves a very great disservice by not allowing the Lord to have His perfect way in our lives through diverse temptations.
But how can I count it joy? Temptations, though meant not to destroy me, will result in forging me into spiritual maturity because it causes me to weigh the consequences of a wrong action while at the same time prompts me to pray and wait in faith for the Lord’s help. It’s truly a trial of fire. But once I allow patience to have her perfect work, which is allowing patience to govern you so that you continue to make the right choices, it will cause you to be perfect (complete) wanting (lacking) nothing.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:1-8
There is a calmness is patience. There is a faith in patience. Patience prevents you from making the wrong decisions simply because of your desire to flee trouble. There is also an unmoveableness in patience. Are you steady under pressure? Stedfast?
What does lack of patience result in? Unstableness is the result of being doubleminded. Doublemindedness is dangerous because it causes you to make decisions based upon your current conditions or circumstances without weighing out the consequences. Patience is the remedy for doublemindedness. Patience causes you to make the right decisions in spite of your circumstances by weighing out the consequences.
