Not Until God is Finished – Daily Devotion for Monday July 31st 2017

Not Until God is Finished

Daily Devotional for July 31st

I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 1:9

Out of all the uncertainties in this life, there is one thing that is stedfast; and that is God purpose! God’s creation has remained until this day. The sun continues to shine without fail day after day. The earth continues to orbit the sun and rotate exactly the way God designed. The will of God is definitely unshakeable and unmovable. Not only are these things certain, but God’s purpose in your life is the same.

Many people go through their lives never knowing or walking in God’s plan for them. Not only do they miss out on the blessings of walking in God’s will, but miss out on God’s protection. Do you realize that walking in God’s will is the safest place for you to be? If you submit to God’s will, there is great protection. God’s purpose is the most important agenda in the world. God protects those who are fulfilling His will! He equips, empowers and sustains them as well.

Toward the end of his life, John the Revelator was a castaway on the Isle of Patmos. History reveals that John had survived a vat of boiling oil. Why such a miraculous deliverance? God was not finished with John! He still had one more book to write; the book of Revelation. Do you realize that if you live to fulfill God’s will, then you will not leave this world until God is finished with you? Peter and John were fulfilling God’s will by preaching this wonderful gospel. The wisest of Pharisees understood that if someone wrestles against those who are fulfilling God’s will, then they are fighting against God Himself. Acts 5:38-39

God has the final say over our lives. The doctors do not have that authority. There’s no sickness nor disease that has the authority over a child of God who is in the center of God’s will. Do you know God’s will for your life? Are you walking in it? If so, you are backed by the Almighty Himself. God’s commission is a place of safety. There’s not enough devils in hell to stop God’s will. It is God who will empower you! You are protected by the Greatest!  It is God who will protect you! It is God who will sustain you. If you’re in God’s will, then take comfort today! You’ll not leave this world until you have finished your course!

Drop Anchor or Sail Away – Daily Devotion for Friday July 28th 2017

Drop Anchor or Sail Away

Daily Devotional for July 28th

And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus’ band.  And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.  Acts 27:1-2

As seas and oceans are unpredictable, so is this world.  Your life is the ship that sails through these waters.  The analogy is accurate because, as a ship rests upon the waters and is moved by the waves, so our lives are continually affected by the world.  The Lord intends to make an experienced sailor out of us.

When storms come at sea, some sailors turn and head back to the harbor.  This is exactly what Satan wants you to do.  When we see trouble on the horizon, most of us turn and run.  Do you seek that save harbor that you are accustomed to dwelling in?  The safe harbor and the anchor are much alike.  The choice of which to seek in time of storm reveals experience of the sailor.  The amateur sailor hasn’t learned to trust in the anchor, but the experienced sailor has.  To the experienced sailor, the anchor is the same as being in harbor.

Is it true that the devil knows most of us will run in fear at the slightest growl from him?   Does the smallest of storm clouds cause you to start turning your ship back to land?  Why do we do this?  Is it because we have seen so many ships sink at sea or is it that we have not learned to trust God?  The very thought of an anchor screams “I’m not running in terror!”  It says “I will not allow this storm to keep me from my destination.”

Dropping anchor requires courage, but it means that we will not give up any ground we have made along our voyage.  It means you have come too far to turn back.  You haven’t lived for God in the time you have just to turn and walk away from Him in hard times.  It’s in these hard times where we turn our back to the safe harbors and trust Jesus more and more every day.

Every day that we live, we have a decision to make.  Will we drop anchor or sail away?  As previously said, dropping anchor reveals the experience of the sailor.  It boldly tells the storm “I’m not running from you in fear.” You’re not running me off again.  I’m going to ride out this storm.”  Is the Lord making you into an experienced sailor?  Are you faced today with the choice of whether to sail back or drop anchor?  If you’ll drop anchor and trust God, then God is about to bring you into a new level where you become more comforted anchored than tied to any harbor dock.

Break Out of the Mold – Daily Devotion for Thursday July 27th 2017

Break Out of the Mold

Daily Devotional for July 27th

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.  2 Timothy 3:5

They say “I want to live my life my way” or “Look at everything I’ll have to give up” or “why do I want to live for Jesus?” or “God didn’t come through for me when I needed Him.”  Some feel that God is unfair or unjust.  You have even heard people say they hated God.  All of these things are enough to break your heart.  They pierce down to the very core of your soul because you know those words are untrue.

Why would anyone not want to live for Jesus?  Of the many reasons, “Empty religion” ranks at the top.  Religion talks a good game, but has no power.  The Pharisees looked great on the outside, but Jesus revealed that they were whited sepulchres.  But walking with Jesus is not religion.  So often though, we make it that way.  The reason is because we go about to perform religious things instead of walking and talking with Jesus daily.  These things are taught by the world.  The Lord Himself does not teach us these things.

Paul declared to Timothy that there would be a generation in the last days would have a form of godliness.  This is nothing more than an empty religious form that has no substance or reality.  The first step to breaking out of this is to just be honest with God with our faults and failures.  Paul continues by saying that they would deny the power thereof.  This is exactly what empty religion does.  It places the part, but has no power from God.  If you’re walking with Jesus in truth, then the power of God will always be present to empower you to walk in victory over sin.  This requires faith in Jesus to do for you what you can’t do.

Breakout We must break out of the religious mold.  How do we do this?  This is done by casting off the religious nonsense of the world and serving God in truth with our hearts.  Romans 12 teaches us be ye not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed.  The word conform suggests an outside pressure closing around an object to be molded.  This is the way the world changes people.  The word transform suggests a change that comes from the inside out.  This is how Jesus changes us.  How do we know whether we are being conformed or transformed?  It may be simpler than you think.  Do we walk like Jesus or do we walk like Pharisees?

You Are God’s Child- Daily Devotion for Wednesday July 26th 2017

You Are God’s Child

Daily Devotional for July 26th

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.  1 John 3:1

When we consider the wonderful redemption plan of God, we seem to limit our thoughts to God’s forgiveness, mercy, grace, healing and deliverance.  While these things are definitely too wonderful for us to know the depth of, our relationship with God is far beyond these thoughts.  Being in the family of God is to be a part of a peculiar people all around the world who enjoys the love of the World’s Greatest Father!

The power of God’s redemption plan is that the blood of Jesus Christ makes us sons and daughters of God.  This is the wonder of Jesus’ sacrifice at Calvary.  When we receive the blood of God’s Son to atone for our sin, that same blood that covers and cleanses will remain upon us, thus making us God’s children.

John exhorted us here to “Behold;” which means to gaze in wonder at what the love of God has bestowed or given unto us.  Since you are now a son or daughter, this relationship has caused great favor to come toward you.  This was God’s plan from the beginning.  God desires your life to be filled with such blessing that it causes the unsaved world to seek the source of your blessings; which is God.

You are not some second rate citizen in the God’s kingdom; you are an heir!  The bible teaches us that we may come boldly before the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.  Hebrews 4:16.  Since God is your true father, then you may ask your father for His favor to change your world.  You now have access to His grace to help in your time of need.  Instead of begging like a slave, God’s children may ask knowing our Father will answer.  It’s His good pleasure to give it unto you.

Sailing Against the Winds – Daily Devotion for Tuesday July 25th 2017

Sailing Against the Winds

Daily Devotional for July 25th

And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.  And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.  Acts 27:4-5

God has a glorious purpose in your life friend.  You have a destination; a direction; a purpose that your life without God cannot even begin to compare to it.  The course of the world is driven by the raging waves of the sea and driving forces of Satan’s storms, but the child of God has such a greater driving force behind it.  Your course has been charted by God Himself.  Your course is also driven by the power of God.

One of life’s misconceptions is that if we go in God’s direction for our life that everything will be smooth sailing.  But what few may realize, Satan will hinder your direction by blowing contrary winds.  Relationships will be strained, arguments will come, trials within the body of Christ will attempt to redirect God’s direction in your ministry.  Satan will seek to turn the entire direction of your ship so that you do not reach the destination God has intended.  If Satan comes to stand against you when you are walking in the will of God, do you think you must lower your sails, drop anchor and wait for Satan’s storm to pass?

Few, who understand that Satan will oppose your direction, believe that we have the ability to sail through these winds.  It is possible to sail in the same direction the winds are blowing.  How is that possible if the ship depends on the wind to move it?  But it takes courage and wisdom of an experienced sailor to navigate in contrary winds.  When contrary winds blow, you can adjust the sails with courage knowing that our God is on the ship with you.

A ship can actually use the winds that blow against it to drive it through the storm.  What effect does opposition have on your purpose?  When winds blow contrary, does it discourage does it encourage you?  If you understand the reason for Satan’s opposition, then it will be nothing but encouraging!  Satan will resist you when you are gaining ground on him.  He will resist when defeat is staring him in the face.  A great storm came to Jesus and his disciples once Jesus sailed toward the maniac of the gadarene tombs.  This should fuel your desire to drive on through the storm.

Don’t let Satan’s winds cause fear to enter your heart!  If your sailing in God’s direction for you, there is nothing that Satan can do that God will not see you through.  Satan is a coward!  His plans only succeed when you run in fear and unbelief.  But if you will face the winds with the assurance that the same Jesus who has brought you safely this far will be continue to be with you, then you WILL sail safely against the winds.

Satan is literally terrified of the One who sails with you!  He runs in terror when a person presses on in God’s direction in the midst of His storms.  It is because you have submitted your ship to God’s course knowing that there is a greater God that will go with me that any force of wind that can blow against me!  IF your facing Satan’s storms, don’t lower your sails today.  Simply adjust them in faith and bear down into the storm.  God is with you!  He will bring you through Satan’s contrary winds!

It’s Our Time Now – Daily Devotion for Monday July 23rd 2017

It’s Our Time Now

Daily Devotional for July 24th

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1

In every generation and all across the world, God has always had a people.  Even though living for God may not be popular in many places, there is a great multitude of people who not only love God, but are willing to give their lives for Him in need be.  Not only does the Lord want you as His own, but He also desires to use you in this world greatly!

Most of us look in the mirror and question God’s willingness to use someone as ourselves, but He does!  Paul uses the imagery of running in a marathon race here in this verse.  It’s interesting how he declares that we are compassed about with witness the same way that marathon runners run in a stadium with the audience looking on and cheering them on!  This Christian life is a lot like a relay race though; the first person sprints around the track and finishes their lap and then hands the baton off to the next person in line!  This is how it is with every believer.  The church of earlier generations has already run their race.

Down through the years we read of men and women who were used in great ways!  We read of Peter, Paul, Silas and Timothy just to name a few.  We see how God took average men and turned the world upside down!  Most of us don’t think God will use us in that way.  The truth is, there is an earth-shaking Jesus living inside all believers, so there is no way you can be less than a world changer!  Your calling is no less than anyone else’s.  If you will surrender unto God’s call in your life, then the power of God will work in and through you to accomplish His purpose in the world.

Even though Peter, James and John are gone, it does not mean that God has quit working in the world.  It’s our time now!  Today is your opportunity to let God’s light shine through you!  God so desires to work through you in the world.  The first disciples ran their race.  They lived their lives for Jesus!  Today they are reaping the rewards of living for the King!  Now is yours!  The rewards are wonderful and eternal!  Don’t think for a moment that your work is not needed!  God needs you friend!  If you will seize this moment in your life and surrender to the call of Jesus to “follow me,” then He will bring forth a work in your life that only He can do!

Spiritual Maturity – Daily Devotion for Weekend July 22nd & 23rd 2017

Spiritual Maturity

Daily Devotional for July 22nd & 23rd

And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.  1 Corinthians 3:1-2

When Jesus saves you, His intention is that you grow beyond a new babe in Christ unto a mature child of God.  Sadly, some Christians never do!  Do we often think that once we are saved, there’s nothing else; no other experiences?  Your life in Christ has only begun and God has a greater purpose for you than you’ll be able to dream of!  The entire world cannot generate a greater purpose for you than that purpose our Creator has!

For most people, praying for the Lord to save them is the finish line, but it’s actually just the beginning.  Jesus wants to do so many great things in your life!  He wants your life to be a living, walking, breathing testimony of His love.  He also wants to equip you with the tools you need in order to be a great light for Him in the world.  He had spent three years teaching His disciples how to love people and how to surrender their will unto God’s will.  He had showed them how to pray for the sick and preach the gospel.  Most though they were probably mature in the Lord but Jesus said some staggering words to them “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.”

Do you consider yourself spiritually mature or still an infant or toddler?  The Bible gives us some explanation on where we are in our spiritual growth.  As with all infants, spiritual infancy is revealed in how concentrated my life is on self.  If your life is still filled with your needs and your purpose, then you are still in infancy.  Infancy is also seen by where our love is focused.  Spiritual maturity can be revealed in how our will is surrendered unto the will of God.  Remember this friend, God’s purpose will always focus on the needs of others.  Is your life spent ministering to others’?

The irony of life is that you feel like you’re missing out on life unless you’re living for your own self, but the opposite is true.  There is great joy in spending your life serving others.  The disciples’ lives were swallowed up in the will of God.  Loving God will always produce surrender to His will!  Jesus told Peter “If you love me, feed my sheep.”  John 21.  Maturity is fully grown when your love for God is the only thing that matters and that you’d rather die than fail the Lord.  The world so much needs to see God’s people growing into mature men and women of God.  If you desire to be this for the Lord, then Jesus will go to work in your life and make you what you ought to be!
