Spirit of Truth: Spirit of Error

Daily Devotional for April 29th & 30th

We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us.  Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit  of error.  Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.  1 John 4:6-7

When we examine the current events happening across our world, we cannot ignore the root cause is much deeper than a difference or opinions or ideologies.  It is obvious that ISIS is driven by a very toxic evil spirit.  When we examine their vision for the world and the fact that their resolve is to destroy those who believe in Jesus Christ, we realize that there is a different spirit influencing them.  1 John and the book of Revelation clearly reveals to us that this is the spirit of Antichrist.

The child of God is very much in tune to the fact that our world is caught up in a spiritual Tug of War.  The same is true in your own walk with the Lord.  There are many spirits that have gone out into the world.  The will pull you, seduce you and attempt to draw you away from the place you are; and that is in the will of God.  Their ultimate goal is to cause you to depart from the faith.  1 Timothy 4:1.

Earlier in this chapter, we are instructed to Try the spirits.  A great concern today is we, as the people of God, have not tried the spirits of the world.  Some churches have even accepting spirits that are not of God.  In our quest to accept people without bias or prejudice, we have accepted the spirits that control them.  God does not expect us to follow anything that comes along.  We must try the spirits.

There are only two types of spirits; the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.  The acid test for trying the spirits is found in this chapter.  Are you trying the spirits?  The Spirit of truth is honest and with love.  Those who truly know God know this.  There is also a spirit of error that does not love; it rather hates.  This spirit can take one many forms, but is still a spirit of error.  It will also deny that Jesus is the Christ.  If love is not our overwhelming force, then it is possible that we are being pulled into a false direction.  Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

Sons & Daughters of God

Daily Devotional for April 28th

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.  2 Corinthians 6:17-18

There is no greater truth given in the word of God than the good news of salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ. When God looked from the beginning, He planned a salvation that, not only rescued and redeemed us from the clutches of Satan, but brought us into a wonderful relationship with our God.  There is no religion in the world that the god or idol worshipped has claimed to have done so much for its people.

When Jesus saved you, His blood was applied and purged your sin. This blood not only cleanses us, but it brings into a bloodline relationship with Jesus Christ; and therefore makes us sons and daughters of the Most High God.  From this point, you should never allow the enemy to make you think that God is not interested in you.  God is not just a being we worship; He has chosen to be our Father.

Many of us view or used to view God as unapproachable; as if we could not get close to Him. Although we are to fear God, that fear is not a fear that drives us away, but drives us into the arms of God.  Our Heavenly Father wants us to reverence Him and recognize Him as above all, but never to run from God in fear.  He is your Father.  He will be a provider to you.  He will always be a shoulder you lean on.  He will always be your comfort and guide.

As a child comes to their parent for love, comfort and every other need in their lives, so God wants you to come to Him for your every need. Every hurt that effects you, every circumstance you find yourself in, every storm that attempts to defeat you; all of these things our loving Father desires to be the One you look to.  You are His daughter.  You are His son!  Have you viewed God in a different way than your Father?

Known in the Spirit

Daily Devotional for April 27th

Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:16-17

One of the greatest things the child of God needs today is discernment. Without it, we are bound to be deceived.  Our eyes must be opened to what the Holy Spirit is showing us and our ears tuned to what the Spirit is saying.  When it comes to people we worship with or even people in our family, there is a temptation to accept people either as Christians or as led by the Spirit.  This assumption has caused great harm and error.

Even though as Christians we are to accept people in unconditional love, it doesn’t mean that we are to believe they are genuine. The bible teaches us that we are to know one another by the Spirit.  In Romans, Paul teaches us that The Spirit itself will bear witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.  Romans 8:16.  This means that, even though someone says they are a Christian, the Spirit will reveal the truth and will bear witness.  It also means that a deceiver cannot hide from the Spirit’s discerning.

How many times has someone attempted to instruct you in spiritual things and there was a witness of the Spirit either confirming their words, or else warning you of their error?  As Paul wrote to the Corinthians, his desire was to make them aware of error that would come and how they could be prepared for it.  He declared that God will show unto them if an apostle, preacher, teacher, or anyone else was of God or not.

Jesus said we need to be wise as serpents when we walk through this world. When we listen to men preach, teach and exhort in the word of God, do we automatically accept them as ministers of God?  The Spirit of God is here to guide us into all truth.  We must learn to know people in the Spirit.  Have you taken council from someone and found it to be a mistake?  Ask the Lord to give you the witness of His Spirit.  We cannot afford to only know men after the flesh.

The Foreship Anchor

Daily Devotional for April 26th

And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship, Acts 27:30

Sailing in these rough spiritual seas of life require us to become knowledgeable and wise in our Christian lives. As some have said, Smooth waters never made skilled sailors. Many believers are shipwrecked in their faith today due to not knowing how to posture ourselves in the storms.  God wants us to learn how to sail; how to survive the rough waters so that we can disciple others to do the same.

Every large merchant ship was equipped with anchors in the foreship (front) as well as the stern (rear). The foreship anchors were the most effective anchors for a few reasons.  First, the foreship or bow of the ship was designed with a point in order to cut the water.  When the ship sailed the oceans under normal conditions, the bow cut through the waters providing less resistance.  In times of storm the bow anchor was cast.  Once the anchor took hold, an amazing thing would take place.  The front of the ship would turn and face the storm.  The experienced sailors knew that the most effective way to survive the storm waves was to allow the bow to cut through.

What this means to us is simple; the most effective way for us to survive the spiritual storms of life is to face them. Once you anchor yourself in Jesus, the Lord will bring about your ship to where you can face your difficulty head on.  Many of us want to ignore our problems or else pretend they aren’t there.  Jesus, our captain, will be our strength but will position us to take on the storm.

Waves crashing against the side of the ship will eventually batter it or even capsize the ship. The same waves beating against the rear of the ship will do the same.  It’s because the ship is designed to face the storms.  Jesus, our anchor, will turn you in the safest place to survive; and that is; face the storm.  Are you finding yourself unwilling to face your problems?  Are you finding it difficult to turn your ship around to deal with the storms.  You can’t without Jesus.  But if you will call on Jesus, the foreship anchor, He will bring you about and give you the strength to face your storm and survive.  Your strength lies in your anchor.  Let Him hold you today.

Jesus Works with You – Daily Devotional for Tuesday April 25th 2017

Jesus Works with You

Daily Devotional for April 25th

So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Mark 16:19-20

Although the world’s reaction to a child of God is not always welcoming, the love of Jesus is. As many of us have also done in our past, the world continues to push away the one thing and One Person they need the most.  If the lost world could just realize the beauty and wonder of Jesus, they would come to Him instantly.

The world does not see Jesus today; or at least they think they don’t. In the same sense that an ambassador represents his king and kingdom, we represent Jesus in this world. As children of God, we stand before the world in the place of Jesus to declare His grace and love to them.  The difference in our life though is Jesus is in you!  You not only represent the King of kings, but the King stands with you and works with you.

Jesus was about to go back to the right hand of the Father in Heaven but told the disciples that He would be with them. Although they could not understand His words, Jesus was in fact with them.  Even though they could not see Him, He was working with them as He works with us today.  The ministry of the gospel is not left into the hands of men alone.  Jesus continues to work with the church.  There’s no way that spiritual victories can be accomplished in lives unless Jesus does the work.  Too often the church has attempted to use any and all means to win the lost that Jesus has not ordained.

Jesus has not left you to perform His will without His help. After all, this is still Jesus’ ministry.  He is the Head of the body which is the church.  We the church cannot accomplish anything without the power of God working within us.  Jesus said “Without me ye can do nothing.”  John 15:5.  Instead of asking the Lord to bless what we are doing, we must ask the Lord to lead us into the work He is in.  When we do, the Lord will work with us and accomplish great things in the world.

God’s Purpose is Greater – Daily Devotional for Monday April 24th 2017

God’s Purpose is Greater

Daily Devotional for April 24th

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5

The will of God is, bar none, the most wonderful life there is! It’s the most interesting life there is!  It is also the most rewarding life there is!  The truth is that God Himself has created you.  He has engineered you in His likeness and His image.  God created you for a purpose!  You’ll never be satisfied until your Creator’s purpose is realized in your life.

Most people go through their life never able to experience a fulfilling life in Jesus simply because they feel like a fulfilling life is based upon their own decisions. Sadly and without realizing it, most of the world never experiences true fulfillment.  In the attempts to bring fulfillment in their own life, the devil uses their own will to manipulate them into walking in his path.  After this, people wind up enduring a meager existance not really living a fulfilling life, but suffering through life.

God revealed to Jeremiah His plans and purposes. God had plans for Jeremiah before He was even formed in the womb.  God would reveal to Jeremiah His purpose for him in His timing.  Jeremiah would be a prophet to nations!  God’s plans are so much greater than ourselves!  When we view our impact on the world, we look at the neighborhood while God views the entire world.  The same is with you; God has the right to have a purpose for your life because He is your creator.  His plans will always benefit you if you will walk in them.  God’s blessings will always accompany His will for your life.

Just because others have chosen to walk in their own will doesn’t mean that you also have to. The Lord knows what He’s doing.  He only asks that we trust Him; to place your will in His will.  You’ll definitely be pleased with the results.  Just look at what God has already done in His creation.  You’re already fearfully and wonderfully made!  Once you surrender to God’s purpose in your life, you’ll never be the same.

Losing Ourselves in Jesus – Daily Devotional for April 22nd & 23rd 2017

Losing Ourselves in Jesus

Daily Devotional for April 22nd & 23rd

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.  Matthew 16:25

This life can be so deceiving.  You’ve heard it said one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The things our eyes can’t see are more real than what we can see.  The things the world counts as important will not make a splash in the ocean of eternity.  Conversely, what the world counts as garbage is priceless treasure to God’s people.  It’s actually a matter of perception.

There’s another irony in the world relating to our lives as God’s people.  When we view Jesus’ instruction for us to take up our cross, we tend to only view the death of ourselves and it is not a welcome thing.  We only see what we are going to lose and never what we look to gain from it.  Jesus tells us here that is we will lose our lives for His sake shall find it.  This is encouraging because when we seek God’s will, He will show it to us.

This truth can be illustrated in this way.  A person is hanging from a cliff and is holding on for dear life by their own strength.  With utter death just below them, they hold on and attempt by any means necessary to keep from plunging to our death.  But the difference in that example and the instruction of Jesus here is this; instead of the person falling to their death below, they fall into life; they fall into Jesus arms.

We cannot see past the sacrifice.  We love ourselves and our own lives so much that it is the most valuable thing to us.  The secret of living for God is to lay our own lives down for Jesus.  This is our greatest battle; laying our lives down to death.  But if we will lose ourselves for Jesus’ sake, we shall find a greater life than we ever hoped to hold on to.  Those who have chosen to turn loose of their own selves for Jesus have discovered a life far greater and far beyond the dull life the world holds so dear.  Turn loose of your life and see if Jesus’ purpose for your life is not far greater.
